Each quarter, selected CSE Professional Masters Program (PMP) classes are enhanced with a set of "distance education" features. The features include:
Originating and remote classrooms will use MSR's ConferenceXP software and Internet2 transport to implement the audio/video conference. PowerPoint slides and instructor annotations will be transmitted between classrooms with the Classroom Presenter. Live interactive classrooms will be located at UW, and MSR. The UW classroom is CSE 305. The MSR classroom is 113/1159.
Lectures from PMP distance education courses are viewable on the internet as Microsoft Windows Media programs, both live and on-demand. Where possible, streams are encoded with embedded lecture slides and instructor tablet annotations which will be synchronized with the live or archived talk.
We are presently doing live encoding using a multiple bandwidth format with a maximum level at 250kbps. This stream is also available on-demand.
Your reception of streamed content my be hindered if you are behind a firewall. If you suspect a firewall may be causing a problem, be sure to configure your Media Player to enable http streaming, and make sure that your http proxy settings are correct for your environment. (The settings are in View menu->Options->Advanced tab.) Since most firewalls permit access through port 80 (http), it may be possible for you to receive content this way.
It is also possible to view a live or archived program with real-time slides and instructor tablet annotations . To do so, install ConferenceXP WebViewer, then use that application to initiate the stream. Note that the WebViewer depends upon Windows Media Player version 9 or later, and the .Net Framework.

Links to both WebViewer-enabled and normal lectures will be posted in in the course web on the day following the lecture.
There is selection of past PMP courses and CSE Colloquia available for on-demand viewing.

The best way for those of us who implement and manage these technologies to know whether or not they really work is to receive feedback. If you have a comment of any kind, or if you're having trouble with the technologies, feel free to contact us:
