PMP Students:
A few PMP items for you as Autumn Quarter approaches.
1. Autumn PMP Data Compression Course. While the course Web isn't expected until closer to the start of the quarter, the Web page from the last undergraduate course offering found at http://www.cs.washington.edu/education/courses/490g/06wi/ offers some insight topics for this course. Please note that the master's-level Data Compression course has been designed to target a higher level of complexity and the needs of graduate level and professional students.
The Data Compression course still has available seats, and I would encourage all PMP students already enrolled in AI or Software Engineering who are equally interested in Data Compression to consider switching to allow for more balanced enrollment. One factor is that the Software Engineering and AI courses should be offered again on or before their regular two year rotation, while the Data Compression course will most likely not return for three or four years.
2. Autumn Class Starts. Autumn Quarter 2007 will commence on Wednesday, September 26 with the AI course. The first day for the Data Compression course will be Thursday, September 27 and the first day of the Software Engineering course will be Tuesday October 2. The full Academic Calendar is available from the link at http://pmp.cs.washington.edu/links.shtml .
3. Academic Year Preview Event. We have decided to not hold the Academic Year Preview Event this year due to several factors including the response from my poll of PMP students. However I do think periodic all-PMP get-togethers are important so I will make sure to come up with some alternatives during the coming academic year.
4. Autumn PMP Graduates. PMP students who wish to graduate in Autumn Quarter 2007 MUST file an on-line Request for Master's Degree between 9/26/7 and 11/18/7 by going to http://www.grad.washington.edu/stsv/mastapp.htm . All PMP students must do this during the final quarter they enroll in courses. To graduate, students must register for at least two credits in the quarter in which they earn their degree.
Below is my initial list of PMP students who are earning their degree in Spring 2007. Please let me know if you need to be added to the list of Autumn graduates or are on the list in error.
Vinayak Rao
Ben Irwin
Ansel Rognlie
Greg Green
Arvind Jayasundar
As always, please let me know if I can be of any additional assistance.
